GTA V modding has not been supported by Rockstar, but this is PC-land, so PC players are not restricted. In the following instructions, we will explain how to install mods for the game. A new player who is unfamiliar with modding can feel intimidated if the instructions aren’t readily available.
How to install GTA 5 Mods
In some cases, a mod that’s already included in the game will be the only mod they’ll ever need. My point is the different cheat codes that are present in the game. GTA V cheats guide includes cheat codes for spawning vehicles, giving unlimited ammunition, and lowering your wanted level.
You should definitely be aware of a few things before starting to mod GTA 5. Many of these things can only be done in singleplayer, but there are scripts available to affect GTA Online as well. You need to be careful here. In GTA Online, the economy is largely dependent on in-game cheats. If you start fiddling around with cheats, even if you just make it snow, Rockstar might not be too happy.
The good news is that what you’re doing here won’t damage your game, won’t affect your saves, and can’t be undone. Click Grand Theft Auto V on your Steam Library’s right-click menu, then choose Properties > Local Files > Verify Integrity of Game Cache. All changes will be erased and modified files will be re-downloaded.
I’m ready to start. In just a few minutes, you’ll be able to get everything running with just two things: Script Hook V and the LUA Plugin.
Script Hook V
Script Hook V is a set of files compiled by Alexander Blade that allow modders to hook into Grand Theft Auto’s singleplayer mode with scripts. The basic tool for modding is this one.
You will receive both the latest version of the Asi Loader as well as the latest version of the Native Trainer in this package. In the game, you can teleport, run fast, jump and use various cheats if you use the Asi Loader; the Native Trainer is not essential, but will give you ready access to a variety of cheats.
Here is how to install Script Hook V
ScriptHookV.dll should be copied from the /bin folder of the GTAV .zip file you just downloaded. The location of GTA5.exe will be something like /SteamApps/common/Grand Theft Auto V/ if you have a Steam install.
2. To use the Asi Loader, you need to use dsound.dll from the same location as previously.
3. To install the optional native trainer, copy and paste NativeTrainer.asi into your folder. This is why you probably want it.
GTAV LUA Plugin
Script Hook V enables you to perform other basic mods in a much easier way. In the first case, there is the LUA Plugin by headscript, which allows users to write LUA scripts for use in the game. The LUA programming language is a powerful tool for creating cool things, and you might have come across it while playing games like Garry’s Mod.

1. Scripts and LUA.asi files are included in your download. You need both.
2. Navigate to /SteamApps/common/Grand Theft Auto V and install the files there.
3. ‘Scripts’ folder contains an ‘addins’ folder. In the future, you will be able to download LUA files here. As of now, it is empty.
GTA 5 mod installation process
As soon as you’ve installed the tools, let’s put something inside. Here’s a simple script that can be downloaded from sakratt’s Ragdoll/Limp On Demand script if you want to try it out.
Installing GTAV ragdoll mod
1. Dragdoll-on-demand.lua is located in the file you just downloaded.
2. Place the script in the /SteamApps/common/Grand Theft Auto V/scripts/addins folder, as described above.
3. That’s it. You can edit the included readme.pdf to make it a toggle on/off button or a different key by pressing ‘u’ in game.
It’s done! It’s now possible to mod Grand Theft Auto V, which includes adding scripts such as the Ragdoll mod and dropping blue whales into Los Santos.
